Canadian fishermen visiting the forthcoming North Atlantic Fish & Workboat Show (16 to 17 November) in St. John’s, Newfoundland, will have the opportunity to see the fishing versatility offered by the Exocet trawl door.

Designed and manufactured by Morgère, Exocet doors are already widely used by Canadian fishermen based in Quebec, Newfoundland, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, who work challenging Atlantic waters for a range of demersal species.

According to Michel Dagorn of Morgère, the principal advantage of Exocet is the lower angle of attack compared with a standard door, while maintaining the same spread.

“This means there is lower drag, which in turn reduces fuel consumption,” he says. “Furthermore, the doors are extremely stable, robust and easy to shoot, ensuring they are ideal for the tough sea conditions found off eastern Canada.

“The Exocet design includes a number of innovative modifications that has resulted in nearly 60% of the weight of the doors focused at the base, with the top half of the doors much lighter.”

He adds: “Exocet is manufactured in a range of different sizes and the doors have provided excellent results for both whitefish and shrimp demersal vessels.”

In association with their Canadian agent Agrés de Peche, Morgère will be displaying a scale model of the Exocet at the North Atlantic Fish & Workboat Show. Morgère’s PV3 trawl door has also proved very popular with Canadian fishermen.

The North Atlantic Fish & Workboat Show will be held at the Mile One Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
