Morgère strengthens its Irish links as fishermen show strong interest in new trawl door designs

Morgère, the leading trawl door manufacturer, has strengthened its already strong historical links with Ireland following a recent tour of several Irish ports to meet local fishermen.

Michel Dagorn and Martin Bouchard of Morgère visited Kinsale, Castletownbere, Rossaveel, Clogerhead and Howth during a four-day visit at the beginning of April – and they were delighted by the friendly reception from Irish fishermen keen to find out more about the latest trawl door developments from Morgère.

“The Irish market has always been tremendously important to us and we were keen to reinforce our strong links with Ireland by meeting fishermen on the quayside,” said Michel.

Fishermen were particularly interested in the PV3 and PV3L types of trawl door designed for bottom trawling. The PV3L is a relatively new design that was launched only a year-and-a-half ago and is already receiving rave reviews from Icelandic and French fishermen.

The PV3L is an adaptation of the highly successful PV3 Door, which is already widely used by fishermen and whose design has evolved over the years based on the company’s extensive research and development programme.

The new PV3L version has a lower centre of gravity than the PV3 enabling it fish closer to the bottom, making it ideal for catching groundfish and prawns. The design provides excellent stability and constant distance between the wings on either side of the trawl , whilst the louvers on the front of the doors delivers an optimum angle of attack.

Martin Bouchard said: “There was strong interest in the PV3L trawl door, particularly because of the strong tradition in Ireland for catching prawns and high value groundfish. We are now actively dealing with several serious enquiries for these doors!

“It was a tremendously worthwhile trip for us and we were constantly impressed by the friendly reception from fishermen and the positive feedback from those who use our trawl doors.”
