Fishing communities around the world will be saddened at the news of the passing away of Jean Morgère, the man who ensured that Morgère trawl doors became renowned around the world for their superior performance.

Born in 1929, Jean Morgère took over the long-established family forge business in St. Malo, Brittany, in 1953 following the death of his father, Louis. Although at the time specialising in all kinds of metal fabrication work for the marine and fishing industries, by 1962 Morgère had moved into the specialised manufacture of high quality trawl doors.

In 1968 the company developed the all-steel and concave Polyvalent door that became an instant success.  Patented in more than 30 countries, the Polyvalent became the most widely used door in global industrial fishing, underlining the innovation that was at the heart of Jean Morgère’s philosophy – a tradition that continues to this day.

Jean retired from the company in 1988, handing over the reins to his son in law, Jean-Gabriel Podeur, and daughter, Hélène Morgère, and today the company still enjoys huge success supplying trawl doors to fishing enterprises all over the world.

Morgère director, Michel Dagorn, said: “We were tremendously saddened to hear that Jean had passed away. His drive and determination ensured that Morgère became a name synonymous with quality and reliability. He will be sorely missed.”
